Dr Manmohan Singh is the 14th Prime Minister of India. He was sworn in as prime minister on 22 May 2004 general elections; his second term commenced on 22 May 2009. Dr Singh has been a Member of the Rajya Sabha since 1991, where he was Leader of the Opposition between 1998 and 2004. Born in 1932, Dr Singh completed his matriculation from Punjab University in 1948 and later attended Cambridge University, where he earned a First Class Honours degree in economics, in 1957. He earned a D. Phil in economics from Oxford University in 1962.
