Former Chmn, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, India
Dr A Gopalakrishnan has extensive experience in the fields of nuclear power, nuclear safety, and nuclear non-proliferation. He was Chairman of India’s Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (1993-96). He was also Chairman of the 15-nation IAEA Drafting Committee for the International Convention on Nuclear Safety (1993). A graduate in electrical engineering from the University of Kerala and alumnus of the post-graduate programme at Bhabha Atomic Energy Centre’s school, Dr Gopalakrishnan received a MS (1967) and PhD (1969) in nuclear engineering at the University of California at Berkeley.
Ambassador of Japan to India
Akitaka Saiki was appointed Ambassador of Japan to India and concurrently to Bhutan in February 2011. Before this appointment he was Director-General, Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (from January 2008); and Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan in USA (from January 2006). A career diplomat, Ambassador Saiki entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1976, after graduating from Tokyo University.From 1983 he received successively senior postings to Divisions responsible for International Economic Affairs, Southeast Asia, Western Europe, and International Organizations.
